Munich (2005, Steven Spielberg)
This movie is good, certainly the best of anything Senor Spielbergo has done since AI (and he even managed to land it without flying off the edge of the runway for a change.) Still I don’t get all the accolades, the people saying that Munich is awesome. After discussing it with a couple people recently, I think that this is a problem of perspective. The people in question went into the movie knowing nothing other than that Spielberg had made a film about the events following the Munich Olympics, and they loved it to death. I went into this movie knowing that Spielberg had made a film about the cycle of violence, and the horrors that it spawns both in a man and a country and I thought it was fine and nothing special. My theory is that these people were reacting to a message that surprised them because it came out of left field and was delivered in an uncharacteristically thoughtful way, as opposed to reacting to the movie itself and how that message is executed. I know Kent loved this one, perhaps he can elaborate some on his reasons.
I really enjoyed the final scene between Bana and Rush, it was really nice and didn’t pummel you like a sledgehammer (at least not until the last shot and I didn’t even mind it by then.) The whole sex scene has to go though, it was totally forced and didn’t seem to fit in with the rest of the film at all.
