- My dream: The Super Bowl halftime show sponsored by Kranky Records featuring Low, LaBradford and Stars Of The Lid
- I’ve been playing around with this great music streaming service called Pandora. You give it a few bands and it starts streaming similar music for you. The collection seems pretty good and in the two different channels I started it was hitting things pretty well. I already have a list of a half-dozen bands that I had never heard of and liked enough to investigate further. You can share your channels so here are mine: the heavy groove channel (source bands Jesus Lizard, Gang of Four, NoMeansNo, Fugazi) and the sleepy rock channel (Sigur Ros, Godspeed, Low, Galaxie 500, Mogwai.) All free (for now) and should work in any browser since it has a Flash interface.
- All the talk about Munich reminded me that I should point everyone towards Kevin McDonald’s excellent documentary One Day In September about the events in Munich. Its very well done, high production values and excellent information. Voiced by Michael Douglas but hey, you can’t have everything. Kevin later went on to direct the by-all-acounts-excellent documentary Touching The Void which I should really catch up with sometime.
- I am, by trade, a software engineer. Many people don’t understand that this is as much art as science, but one guy who does is Michael Lopp, aka Rands. His website Rands In Repose is a fountain of wisdom on the subject of software development and the management of such. Today’s entry on how to manage remote employees is typically excellent. Why is he named Rands? You obviously haven’t been reading Jerkcity (not safe for work by a long shot). Want to read more about software development? Try Joel On Software.
