SIFF - 6/2/06
Films Today: 1
Running Total: 18
I was totally fried today as predicted. I ended up taking off a bit early from work so I could beat the traffic to Bellevue, and since I got there a couple hours before the movie I took a little nap in my car. Ah yes, the glamorous film festival lifestyle.
Speaking of glamorous, the Lincoln Square theatres are totally posh. Leather seats, armrests that fold up, huge screen. All the comforts. Alas, A Prairie Home Companion was not so impressive. It was fun and entertaining, all the performances are good, but it is nothing special. There are two particularly funny bits which are worth the price of admission. More interesting is pondering the film’s themes of mortality and conclusion in the context of Altman’s increasing age and declining health. Paul Thomas Anderson was on set as an assistant to Altman during the filming, and a lot of the camera moves just reek of his influence, which makes me wonder how much who was doing. PTA probably copped half those moves from Altman anyways so who knows?
This was the only movie today, heading into a busy weekend. I was glad to get some nap time.
